Sugar Loaf Wines - Rapaura, Marlborough, New Zealand
2010 Pinot Noir
Vintage : 2010
Variety : 100% Pinot Noir
Region : Marlborough, Awatere Vally
Harvest : Hand harvested over 3 days in the last week of April, 23.5-24.6 Brix
Residual Sugar : Naturally fermented to dryness
Cellar : Optimum drinking now to 2015
Winemakers Comment:
This fruit was sourced from a single vineyard in the upper reaches of the Awatere Valley. Long cool nights coupled with a gentle breeze down the valley gives an extended season for ripening and flavour development.
Grapes were selectively hand harvested, and gently destemmed to small open germenters where fermentation was allowed to commence 'wild' with naturally occurring vineyard yeasts. Ferments were plunged by hand and pressed to a mixture of new and seasoned French barrels for 8 months of maturation.
Tasting Notes:
A smooth, elegant Pinot Noir with hints of cherry, spice and tomato leaf. Rich fruit on the palate, with supple, fine tannins and a lingering hint of smokiness.
